It’s true what they say about Texans – we love our trucks. The bigger the truck, the more horsepower and the more tricked out, the better. Here are the top ten Texas trucks as inspired by caranddriver.com, in no particular order.
1. Ford F-150
The Ford F-150 is consistently the best selling truck out there, and with good reason. Its aluminum frame reduces weight while the design increases towing power. It’s been ranked the ‘Pickup Truck Best Buy’ two years in a row by Kelley Blue Book.
2. Ram 2500
This truck is tough, but doesn’t drive like it. It boasts towing power up to 31,000 pounds, but multi-link rear suspension makes for an incredibly comfortable ride. To help navigate, the Ram 2500 comes with switchable rear camera and front park assist.
3. Chevrolet Silverado 1500
An 8-speed automatic transition and 5.3 liter V8 engine mean that this car doesn’t sacrifice power for size. The 2016 exterior redesign upgrades the standard look for an aesthetic added bonus.
4. Toyota Tundra
The Tundra is Toyota’s most powerful truck. In spite of heavy domestic competition, the Toyota delivers a high quality vehicle with plush interior, bold design and high resale value.
5. Chevrolet Colorado
The diesel option makes this pickup an intriguing option, at the very least, lending up to 700 extra pounds of towing capacity. Ride quality and steering responses are respectable.
6. GMC Sierra 1500
This is a big truck that can’t go unnoticed on the road. New options include lane-keep assist, power-articulating-assist steps and two new audio systems featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
7. Toyota Tacoma
This compact pickup features more off-roading capability than any other of its size. The V6 engine can tow up to 6,800 pounds. The cab can be tight, but the interior is high quality with easy controls. The Tacoma also boasts an excellent resale value.
8. GMC Canyon
The perfect choice for anyone who likes the Sierra, but wants smaller size and more mobility for in-town driving. Available in 24 valve 26 liter V6 engine with 269 lb-ft
torque.
9. Nissan Frontier
The Nissan Frontier gets points for consistency. While not outstanding in any category, the Frontier has a unique look with solid towing capabilities and a decent V6 engine. Numerous configurations are available in the 2016 model, allowing you to get the Frontier you want for an affordable price.
10. Honda Ridgeline
The upcoming 2017 model has been met with measured enthusiasm. This unibody mid-size truck will feature a 3.5-liter V-6 and six-speed automatic, as well as its four-wheel-drive system. The Ridgeline should improve its EPA rating with cylinder deactivation.
If you can’t get enough of our cars and trucks, look for more on our website. Join us at this year’s auto show in November and get behind the wheel of your favorite Texas truck!
